Safety Around the House
  • Never leave oil-soaked rags lying about.
  • After using, hang them outside to dry and then throw them away.
  • Do not store gasoline, benzene, naphtha or similar solvents around the home.
  • These flammable liquids give off vapors that can be ignited readily.
  • Keep basement, attic and other storage areas clean of useless debris such as broken furniture, old clothes and rags.
  • Keep everything three feet away from the furnace, space heater, and the water heater.
  • Keep your yard free of leaves, debris and combustible rubbish.
  • Do safety inspections once a month.
  • Replace damaged or frayed extension cords.
  • Do not attempt to repair old cheap appliances that are not working properly.
  • Keep yourself informed of the latest recalls on appliances.
  • Surge suppressors are for protecting appliances from sudden power spikes. They will not keep from overloading circuits if they are overloaded.
  • If you use gas the family needs to know where the outside shut of valve is and how to close it.
  • Use a Carbon Monoxide Detector if you use gas. A digital read out is preferred by Fire Solutions LLC.
  • Install Sprinklers and Photo Electric Detectors for smoke. If you can not afford sprinklers use Thermal detectors that are mechanical with Photo Electric Detectors for smoke. This is a low cost solution.
